Pens

Write your notes with a piece of history! These pens are hand made here at Harriton and have lathe-turned boxwood barrels from English boxwood shrubs. The bushes were first planted at Longmeadow House in Gladwyne and then moved here to Harriton in the 1930's. We are told that the plants originated at a castle in England more than a century ago. The bushes grew here at Harriton for 50 years and were enormous shrubs even into the mid 1980's. Unfortunately, a virus weakened and eventually killed the shrubs. The 4" & 5" trunks were harvested, the ends were waxed, and the blocks then placed in the loft to season. Some pieces have been drying for more than 15 years, nearly long enough to age Scotch whiskey! The silky smooth boxwood is finished and polished with beeswax from the beehives here at Harriton. Fountain pens come with a package of refill cartridges; a pump style refill is also available for an additional $5.00.

A Taste of History® is taped in significant historic locations; from Jefferson’s Monticello to Philadelphia’s Rittenhousetown and even on the banks of the Delaware River at Washington’s Crossing. Harriton Honey

Many folks ask (repeatedly) if they can buy our Harriton Honey, but we must decline those requests. The high quality raw (unheated) honey produced at Harriton is limited in quantity, and supplies are used for publicity and friend-raising purposes.   Our policy is to present each new membership with a small jar of Harriton Honey as a promotional thank you, as long as the annual "crop" lasts. If you are not yet a member of Harriton please click this link to Donate Now and make a membership contribution of $50.00 or more through the safe and secure Just Give program. Your generous support will also bring you e-news and postal cards announcing events at the historic site.  We wish we could provide all of our contributors and returning members with a jar of honey, but production is very limited.  Do come to one of our free beekeeping programs and you will be able to have a taste of the melifluous liquid!
